Canoeing on the Potomac River
Travel the river like Lewis and Clark and experience nature as it existed when the frontier was being discovered.
Paddling a canoe offers a more intimate excursion on the water and allows you to travel at your own pace. There’s plenty to see and explore as you meander down the Potomac River alongside the historic C&O Canal towpath, so bring your binoculars, and maybe your fishing pole! Enjoy Potomac River canoeing with Harpers Ferry Adventure Center. Paddlers often see osprey, great blue herons, turtles, and you might even catch a glimpse of our nation’s great bird, the bald eagle. Discover the ecology of the many small islands in the Potomac with the Blue Ridge Mountains as your backdrop. Enjoy the peace only a fishing pole can provide as you attempt to reel in a small mouth bass on a quiet, calm stretch of water.
